Happee still undefeated
Happee won the second home game of the season against Steelers from Hämeelinna.
Steelers defended solid in the opening period and Happee had difficulties controlling the ball. Steelers got some dangerous counter attacks and Timo Johansson scored 0-1 after 12 minutes. Markus Laakso made his first appearance as starting goalie for Happee. He made some great saves keeping Happee in the game.
Happee had a slow start in the second period but finally Jonne Junkkarinen scored the equalizer in the middle of the game. Happee’s first goal opened up the game. Happee scored four goals in a row and Nico Jonaeson reduced to 5-2 with a short-handed goal. Veli-Matti Hynynen and Petri Kauko executed their well-known free-hit pattern and Happee regained four goal lead after two periods.
The same two guys increased the lead to five goals with a power play goal in the beginning of the third period. Then Steelers got their chance on power play. Steelers reduced to 7-4 with two quick goals but Hynynen killed the last spurt of Steelers by finalizing his hat trick in empty net.
The player of the match was Jonne Junkkarinen with a goal and four assists. He saw both good and bad in the game.
- We started poorly again but I have to give some credit to the opponent as well. They made it difficult for us. Usually when we score a goal, everything starts to go our way. That’s what happened again today, concluded Junkkarinen.
Head coach Mikko Lehto was happy with the result.
- The start wasn’t as bad as on Saturday but there is still a lot to improve. We managed to survive our weak moments with little damage. Laakso kept us in the game with some nice saves.
- We didn’t score for almost half an hour but the opening goal made everything easier. Our power play worked well tonight even though we tried some new compositions on the way. I have to be satisfied the points we gained, Lehto finishes.
